Amazon will continue its luxury storefront without Saks Global. The two companies started their partnership less than a year ago. Saks Fifth Avenue curated luxury products for Amazon’s “Luxury Stores at Amazon.” However, Saks Global decided to end the collaboration due to its bankruptcy.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that the luxury platform would move forward. “Beyond the Saks experience, the Amazon Luxury store continues to offer a wide selection of high-end designer styles, and we’re adding more luxury brands regularly,” the spokesperson stated.
Saks Global Exits Amazon Partnership Amid Bankruptcy
Saks Global is leaving Amazon’s luxury storefront as part of its bankruptcy proceedings. The company initially joined Amazon in December 2024, bringing a curated selection of luxury goods. However, the collaboration didn’t meet Saks’ expectations. Reports say that Saks struggled to get brands to participate on Amazon’s platform. As a result, the company decided to refocus its efforts on Saks.com.
Saks’ decision to exit Amazon marks the end of their brief partnership. While Amazon still runs the luxury storefront, Saks will no longer curate the product offerings.
Saks’ Role in Amazon’s Neiman Marcus Acquisition
Saks also had a role in Amazon’s $475 million investment in Neiman Marcus. As part of this deal, Saks helped onboard luxury brands to Amazon’s platform. In exchange, Saks Holdings agreed to pay Amazon a referral fee and guaranteed $900 million in payments over eight years. However, as Saks navigates its Chapter 11 process, Amazon has accused the company of breaching the agreement.
Amazon also called its stake in the Saks-Neiman deal “worthless.” The tensions between the companies have escalated following Saks’ decision to exit.
Amazon’s Ongoing Expansion of Luxury Offerings
Despite Saks’ departure, Amazon plans to continue its luxury expansion. The company is adding more luxury brands to its curated storefront. Amazon aims to reach affluent consumers and expand its retail offerings. While Saks’ exit may have created headlines, Amazon’s luxury platform will likely continue to grow with or without the luxury retailer.
