Fynd Expands into South Africa with Surtee Group Deal

December 17, 2025

Indian retail-tech firm Fynd has officially entered South Africa. Specifically, on December 15, 2025, the company announced its Fynd South Africa expansion, naming luxury fashion retailer Surtee Group as its first African client. As a result, this move marks Fynd’s strategic entry into a fast-growing digital market poised for transformation.

Moreover, Fynd CEO Modi called South Africa “an exciting addition to our global footprint.” He added that the market is “digitally ambitious, brand-forward, and ready for intelligent commerce infrastructure.” Therefore, Fynd aims to help local retailers unify siloed systems, personalise customer engagement, and speed up fulfilment—all without adding complexity.

Under this new partnership, Surtee Group will deploy Fynd’s full unified commerce stack. This includes Storefronts, an Order Management System (OMS), a Warehouse Management System (WMS), and Clienteling tools. Together, these solutions will connect in-store and online operations. Additionally, they will improve real-time inventory visibility and power brand-specific e-commerce sites across Surtee’s portfolio.

Importantly, the Fynd South Africa expansion arrives at a pivotal moment. According to Mordor Intelligence, the country’s e-commerce market hit $38.51 billion in 2025. Furthermore, it is projected to reach $61.48 billion by 2030, growing at a 9.81% compound annual rate. This growth stems from rising internet access and mobile shopping.

Meanwhile, global giants are already competing fiercely. For instance, Amazon.co.za launched in May 2024 and quickly expanded from general merchandise into groceries, pet food, and health supplements. At the same time, Shein and Temu together recorded R7.3 billion ($434 million) in sales during 2023–2024. Notably, they now capture nearly 40% of online clothing sales. In fact, Temu’s “Shop like a Billionaire” app became a sensation in early 2024—surpassing even WhatsApp and Facebook in South African app downloads.

Beyond e-commerce players, technology infrastructure providers are also stepping up. For example, Dell Technologies and Intel are working closely with local retailers. They are actively rolling out AI-enabled solutions, loss-prevention systems, and edge-computing platforms to modernise stores and supply chains.

By partnering with Surtee Group—a respected name in luxury fashion—Fynd positions itself as a trusted enabler of digital transformation. Rather than competing on price like Temu or Amazon, Fynd focuses on empowering established brands with intelligent back-end systems. Consequently, this approach helps legacy retailers stay relevant amid shifting consumer expectations.

Ultimately, the Fynd South Africa expansion signals more than a geographic milestone. Indeed, it reflects a broader shift: as African retail digitises, demand for integrated, brand-friendly commerce tech is rising fast. With Surtee Group as its beachhead, Fynd is well-placed to scale across the continent—one retailer at a time. Looking ahead, this move could pave the way for deeper tech-led retail innovation across Southern Africa.
