Apple is moving its Apple Santa Rosa store relocation from Santa Rosa Plaza mall to Montgomery Village. The tech giant will leave its downtown spot after 20 years. The new store opens on Friday, January 23, 2026, at noon.
Located at 720 Farmers Lane, the new space spans 8,684 square feet. That’s more than five times larger than Apple’s original 1,500-square-foot store from 2004. It sits between Vuori and Me Spa in the open-air center—about two miles east of the mall.
Moreover, the company confirmed the store will be “significantly larger.” Workers recently installed window coverings with the Apple logo. Earlier, in December 2025, passersby spotted the logo—but crews covered it during interior work. The city issued a temporary occupancy permit in mid-December. This allowed utilities to turn on and staff to prepare before public opening.
This move reflects Apple’s changing retail strategy. At first, placing a store in Santa Rosa was unusual. Back then, Apple focused on big cities. But over time, its stores became community hubs. Programs like Today at Apple now emphasize learning, creativity, and ongoing engagement—not just sales.
Meanwhile, Santa Rosa Plaza’s management is staying positive. General manager Danielle Nelson said the mall remains a “dynamic, connected hub.” She highlighted upcoming additions like Dave & Buster’s and P.F. Chang’s. “This is just the beginning of Santa Rosa Plaza’s next chapter,” she added.
In contrast, Montgomery Village is quickly becoming Sonoma County’s top lifestyle destination. Since WS Development bought it in mid-2021, high-end brands have flocked there. In 2025 alone, Anthropologie, Sweetgreen, Bluemercury, Free People, Mendocino Farms, Salt & Straw, Fieldwork Brewery, and Club Pilates all opened.
Looking ahead, 2026 will bring even more. Beach by Everything But Water, Face Foundrié, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Kendra Scott are all coming. However, Sprinkles canceled its planned kiosk after announcing a full shutdown.
Therefore, the Apple Santa Rosa store relocation signals a bigger shift. As shoppers prefer open-air, experience-focused centers, Montgomery Village is emerging as Santa Rosa’s new retail heart.
