RINKAN, a well-known Japanese retailer of vintage trophy items, has opened a second RINKAN Ginza store—this time devoted entirely to designer handbags. Specifically, it occupies the basement (B1) level of the same Ginza building where its first shop launched three-and-a-half years ago.

Moreover, the new boutique marks a strategic expansion in one of Tokyo’s most prestigious shopping districts. As a result, RINKAN reinforces its position as a curator of high-end fashion heritage.

The store was designed in collaboration with architect Kenta Nagai of Tokyo’s negu, inc. Because it sits below ground, the entrance staircase becomes the main architectural feature. To make it stand out, Nagai set it slightly back from the street. Then, he added indirect lighting to the handrails and mirrored the ceiling. Consequently, the descent glows softly and remains visible from sidewalk level.

As shoppers walk down, they encounter a stunning display: rare bags appear to float in midair. This effect comes from precisely arranged solid aluminum structures that reflect and multiply each piece. Therefore, even a small collection feels expansive and immersive.

At the center of the space, the drama peaks. An elongated display cabinet—made of natural stone and aluminum—anchors the room. Flanking it are glass-and-aluminum shelves stacked with treasures from Hermès, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton.

Underfoot, irregular cobblestone flooring adds texture and contrast. In contrast, the far end of the store shifts mood entirely. There, a lounge area offers warmth and comfort. Timber furnishings, an upholstered sofa, soft drapes, and washi paper lighting create a homey retreat.

Additionally, the RINKAN Ginza store carries select vintage jewelry alongside its handbag collection. Every item undergoes strict authentication, ensuring rarity and quality—core values of the RINKAN brand.

By dedicating a full store to bags in Ginza, RINKAN signals deep confidence in timeless luxury. Ultimately, this isn’t just retail—it’s a carefully staged experience that honors fashion as art.
