Lululemon Resumes Sales of Get Low Leggings

Lululemon has made its Get Low leggings available for sale again after temporarily removing them from its website in North America due to customer complaints about the leggings being “totally see-through.” In response to the feedback, the brand has updated the product page with new guidance for potential buyers.

“We take our guests’ feedback seriously and value their input in shaping the products and experiences we create,” a Lululemon spokesperson said. “Last week, we temporarily paused online sales of our Get Low collection in North America to review early guest feedback and insights. Based on the learnings, we have updated our product education information to incorporate new guidance on fit, sizing, and features to better support guest purchase decisions.”

Updated Product Guidance

As of Friday, the Get Low leggings product page now recommends customers to size up and pair the leggings with skin-tone, seamless underwear. Additionally, the product page highlights key features, including the absence of a front seam and a “unique back gusset,” as part of the new educational information aimed at improving the shopping experience.

The Get Low Leggings Controversy

This move follows a previous issue Lululemon faced with its Breezethrough leggings line, which the brand had to retract about a year and a half ago. The Get Low controversy has added fuel to the ongoing criticism of the brand from its founder, Chip Wilson.

In a LinkedIn post on Thursday, Wilson called the situation a “new low” for Lululemon and criticized the board for its lack of experience in creative businesses. Wilson also blamed the board for being uninvolved in product development. His post included a reminder of his efforts earlier this month to nominate three directors to Lululemon’s board.

“I’ve believed that Lululemon has lost its cool for some time, but it is now evident to me that the Company has completely lost its way as a leader in technical apparel,” Wilson wrote. “For years, Lululemon’s results (particularly in North America) have shown how the Company has struggled to deliver products that are compelling and beloved; now it is unable to simply deliver products that work.”

Lululemon’s Response to Wilson’s Criticism

Lululemon did not respond to a request for comment on Wilson’s remarks. However, a spokesperson reiterated the brand’s commitment to “delivering high-quality products and a great guest experience.”

Industry Perspective on the Issue

Liza Amlani, founder of Retail Strategy Group, suggested the problems with the Get Low leggings could be more related to production or vendor issues. In an email, Amlani stated that the transparency issue might stem from challenges during the manufacturing process rather than a fundamental flaw in the product’s design.
