Have an old necklace or bracelet from a past relationship gathering dust in your jewelry box? If so, JCPenney has a timely solution. This Valentine’s Day, the retailer is offering a fresh start—and a sparkling upgrade—through its new Ex-Change Necklace promotion.
Specifically, on Saturday, February 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. (or while supplies last), select JCPenney stores will accept any piece of jewelry previously given by a former partner. In return, participants will receive a brand-new pendant valued at $375. Moreover, the piece features a half-carat lab-grown diamond set in 14k yellow gold over silver—a modern, ethical alternative to mined stones.
The offer comes with straightforward terms. First, participants must surrender real jewelry; edible or plastic items do not qualify. However, the item’s material, condition, or original value does not matter. Therefore, whether it’s a tarnished locket or a broken chain, if it came from an ex, it’s eligible.
Only ten JCPenney locations nationwide are participating, and inventory is limited. Notably, the Roosevelt Field store in Garden City, NY—the only New York location—will distribute 100 necklaces. Meanwhile, all other stores will offer 50 each. Consequently, early arrival is strongly advised to secure one.
Here are the participating stores:
- Roosevelt Field – Garden City, NY
- Glendale Galleria – Glendale, CA
- Stonebriar Mall – Frisco, TX
- North Riverside Mall – North Riverside, IL
- Plaza Bonita – National City, CA
- The Meadows Shopping Center – Las Vegas, NV
- Palm Valley – Goodyear, AZ
- Alderwood Mall – Lynnwood, WA
- Westland Mall – Hialeah, FL
- Battlefield Mall – Springfield, MO
This campaign blends emotional symbolism with sustainability. On one hand, it helps people let go of painful reminders. On the other, it promotes ethically sourced fine jewelry. Lab-grown diamonds offer identical brilliance to mined ones but with a smaller environmental footprint and greater affordability.
Furthermore, the Ex-Change Necklace reflects a broader cultural shift. Increasingly, people view breakups as opportunities for renewal rather than loss. Thus, transforming a symbol of a failed relationship into something beautiful—and self-owned—resonates deeply in today’s self-care-focused climate.
Although the promotion is brief and location-limited, its message is clear. Ultimately, your next chapter deserves better bling. And this Valentine’s Day, JCPenney is helping you begin it—with a little sparkle, on your own terms.
